I consider this blog to be a bastion of good taste. Sometimes, the music I put up here isn’t always straight to the line metal, hardcore or indie. Sometimes, you have to open your ears to the sacharrine sweet world of pop music.
Ellie Goulding…
Remember the first time you fell in love? When everything seemed so fresh, so vibrant and you felt as if you could take on the world? Those butterflies in your stomach lifting you up and pushing you to make the best of everything given to you. Thats what happens when you listen to this girl. She makes you feel that everything could be alright again when its at the worst and only dragging you down further. This is the girl thats made me fall in love with music all over again. Ellie Gouldings cover of the Bon Iver opus Wolves (Act I & II) is a near perfect, nay, flawless cover and the first time you hear it, the hairs on the back of your neck will stand on end for what feels like aeons afterwards.

Besides listening to her music an awful lot, I also did a cheeky remix which is up on my (coughcough) soundcloud account. http://soundcloud.com/arktrixdubstep

So that little gem out of the way, I’ll sign off with this video of Minus The Bear live. I still can’t believe I’ve slept on this band for so long. Well, not properly slept on them, but never really taken the time to properly listen. Trust me, open your ears and if you don’t like the interweaving melodies and near pristine vocals, I’ll make a turdburger and eat it raw.
Due to numerous schoolboy errors, like forgetting my password and other embarrassing things I hadn’t been able to post for a while. Now I can, I thought I’d do everyone a favour and post up some awesome music links to ease the pain of you not hearing anything from the HG camp in a long while.
American Analog Set – Hard To Find (2000-2005)

Songs range from pure pop glory, to grooved out instrumentals, to lullabies to soothe your shattered nerves.

Electric Assembly – White Splinter

Electric Assembly are defiantly not following current fashion, which can only be applauded. However, they do seem to be defiantly following something that went out of fashion a few years ago. That’s not a bad thing either. Anyway, ‘White Splinter’ has been released in a limited edition of 100 CDs in swanky hardboard hand-painted covers and they’re a-running out already. Get yourself over the band’s website to hear some of this music and purchase a copy if you’re a more forgiving person than me:

Arktrix
Now this might be a bit egotistical, but I’m going to plug my own wares. Its not exactly anything new or fresh, but I’m enjoying learning how to produce instrumental grime and Dubstep tracks.

On that news, I’m going to toddle off for a little while and work on some more beats in my laboratory. Peace and fucking believe, fuck nuts.
Hallowed Grey is still as busy as ever. We have been neglecting the online side of things recently in favour of getting the printed version of HG Issue 4 into production. So far I’ve been sent yet more stellar work by the ever intelligent Matthew Jordan and have another friend writing an article on the modern music video, which believe me is sure to be as satirical as they come.

Don’t worry, the picture above is there for a good reason. A damn good reason at that. This is a promo picture for the band, These Branchess. They’re a two piece from Ocean County, New Jersey and meld together the sounds of emo and indie with a lofi, yet clear production quality. There is an EP available for download on their page and I fully suggest you go and download it.

More to come later today.
This post is an absolute pleasure for me to share with the world. The Banner got me into the darker, more evil side of hardcore.

This is nothing like their previous material. 32 minutes and 33 seconds of epicly crafted, gothic tinged post metal, complete with obligatory G!YBE styled use of zombie/horror samples at the start of the record. This record is a must download. Now, please will someone press this on vinyl?

There was an interview with Attack Vipers here, but seeing as its going into the fourth issue, you can read it there instead! Peace.
So as this blog has been a little quiet over the past few weeks, I figured it was time for a mammoth update. The Arah Kiri tape is now up, as promised. They’re a rad youth crew esque band from the depths of Malaysia. Short, fast, loud. Expect nothing less.
Other than that, here is an assortment of demos you may not have had the chance to get hold of otherwise. Peaaaace and fucking believe.
More Than Life.
This is the precursor to the absolutely phenomenal ‘Brave Enough To Fail’ EP. Expect octave chord melodies and clean guitar lines interwoven with monstrous mosh parts and vocals that are filled with so much desperation you’ll be wanting to punch through your computer screen
More Than Life download is here.
Deal With It
DWI hail from the northern end of England and peddle hardcore similar to the old crossover bands of the late eighties. Think Alpha & Omega era CroMags mixed with a little No Warning and you’re about there.

Wavves is a one man ensemble consisting of Nathan Williams and is one of my favourite bands at the moment. They’re lo-fi like their contemparies No Age and do a similar sort of blissed out garage punk with shoegazey overtones and no pretensions. This is the perfect soundtrack for skateboarding and riding your bike along the promenade in the cool summer evenings. Perfect.

Atoms are another product of the burgeoning pop scene happening over in the Bay Area of California at the moment. Taking a more punk approach than Wavves, they combine synths, 80s hardcore and a hefty amount of quirky riot grrl esque vocal stylings. If you’re from the 80’s and looking for real pop music with the bite and raw attitude that you’ve been missing then you could worse than Atoms.
Lost & Found is a new little feature I’ve decided to start running to try and showcase some rad bands I’ve found over the past week and to bring out some hidden gems that people may have forgotten about. Expect myspaces, youtube videos, unreleased mixes, demos and lots of other awesome stuff.

Wave Machines are a rad little electro pop band from Liverpool. Vocally it reminds me of Mika a lot, but without the added camp value the aforementioned brings with it. You can sign up to their newsletter and claim a free track via their website. The link is on the myspace below.

Flashguns are from comprised of four guys who hail from the bright lights and city blurs of Brighton and London. They make lush indie rock with vocals that are slightly reminiscent of the new Kings Of Leon material, but no-where near as polished. These are perfect summer tunes.
