Hey Andre, can you tell the kids who were lucky enough to receive one of these zines today what inspires your lyrics and vocals on a day to day basis?
Well, it might sound very self-centred but lyrics are mostly personal and deal with my private life! I can’t really write anything positive at all since I see hardcore and aggressive music as a way to shout out your worst feelings. I write when i feel quite down and depressed otherwise I couldn’t come up with anything I like at all. Writing really helped me out in several situations. The First album was all about my dead 7 year relationship and I was probably living the worst period of my whole existence.
Italy has had some astounding vegan edge bands in the past and Europe in general seems to be a hotbed of activity for the more politically, socially aware hardcore, do any of these aspects of the scene have a role to play with Gold Kids?
3/5 of us used to be in some sort of edge/vegan bands. I’m not saying we’re a bunch of sell-outs (lol) since I’m still edge and vegan but I don’t really see any connection between that kind of scene and this new band. I remember there was the legendary “Roma SXE Legion”, it was well known all around Europe and stuff. All those bands pretty much broke up or sold out. The reason why Italian bands used to be or are more into political/social hc is really easy to understand: We’re one of the worst countries ever… Laws are jokes here. No one cares about kids, bands, music or anything else… I see people in Sweden/Norway or Germany/Austria getting venues, rehearsal space, or whatever one needs to start a band from their government. Ours doesn’t give a fuck about anyone. If you’re young and live in this shitty country it’s almost impossible to get a job or any kind of social position in life! It’s all about paying taxes to make them rich! You give them everything and get nothing back. Nobody is going to help you!
You seem to love coming to the UK, I know our food isn’t that great, so what is it you guys like so much?
We really love touring in general so we take any chance to leave our ghost island. We try to tour as much as we can cause being home is so depressing. We do live far away from everything we love! Concerning the UK, we got so many friends up there. We’ve been touring a lot with our best mates in The Legacy (Europe and UK) and More Than Life (Europe). So TL /MTL and Dead Swans are the reason why we love the UK at the moment! Plus I do run and own Anchors Aweigh Records and most of the bands I’ve signed come from England! It’s cool to meet anyone we’re friend with and hang out… We’re also really into the UK for promoters/booking agencies pulling out last minute (ahahah) that’s something I don’t want to forget!
American Nightmare seems to be one of the bands biggest influences so if you were going to make a mix CD of your favourite songs, what would it include?
To be honest our new album doesn’t really sound like AN, but yeah they did influence us and most of the bands around at the moment since the beginning! It’s really hard to pick up just a bunch of songs because I really like all the albums they’ve done… even the GUTG one was rad! I’ll try to do it though:
Protest Song #00
Fuck What Fireworks Stand For
Please Die!
Farewell
Your Arsonist
Hearts
There’s A Black Hole In The Shadow Of The Pru
AM/PM
Love American
Is there anything you’d like to add or anyone you’d like to thank before we call it a day?
I’m going to say thank you to James for sorting us with flights and everything in London… he’s the best dude seriously. Cheers for caring about us dude.
